A full-blown alimentation is one of the principal conditions of a problem-free bird keeping. Birds that live in people's houses in decorative cages usually belong to granivorous birds. Owing to the name of the species people used to feed them only with seeds, that is not right. Every season birds diversify their nourishment owing to their necessities when they dwell in nature. The nourishment may contain animal feed, different greens, fruits and tree barks. So bear in mind, that if you want your bird to be robust and healthy you are to feed it with various sorts of forage.

Nowadays you may see a broad variety of wild bird seed in different pet shops. But you are not to feed your bird just with seeds a whole year because it doesn't really conform to diverse bird nutrition in nature conditions.

There are a lot of cases when birds eat the same feed for years and nothing happens, but diseases not always reveal themselves in a quick way. But as a rule, the effects of such nutrition can be revealed in the abnormality of molt, overweight, kidney illness and disorder of the reproductive function. Vitamins and proteins are also necessary for the birds' organism because without them various infectious diseases can occur.

The main part in a bird's meal must include grain mixture. It is very significant for birds that the mixture should include various sorts of crops (wheat, oats, millet, maize etc) and seeds (canary seed, herbage seeds and lettuce's seeds). Also you may add there diverse oil-bearing crops such as sunflower seeds, poppy seeds, hemp seeds and various nuts. But you are to be careful because the excessive feeding with oil-bearing crops can be a reason of overweight.

Your bird must have an everyday norm of its ration because every species has its own daily norm. You may see that a canary would eat only one teaspoon per day and Cockatiel Parakeet's standard is 1 tablespoonful.

You have to include in the feed diverse greens, wild herbage, fruits, vegetables, fresh leaves and branches of trees. Besides, animal feed must be added to a bird's meal. It may be eggs (only in made-up condition), fatless curds or small amount of fatless minced meat. The periods of feeding with such forages are various. For a normal bird it should be given once a week, for a bird that has molt period - twice a week and in the period of nestling - every day. In the bird's cage must be also present a feeder with chalk or small stones, they are necessary for a normal digestion.

Birds also want a large cage for them to feel comfortable. A large number of pet stores may offer you to buy various cages if you incline to bird homes.
